One of the biggest benefits of all. The P.T.S. system re-suspends the huydrocarbons in the sludge into the light crude used during the de-sludging operation.
The total liquid content of the tank is now ready for processing.
In the case of one large diameter tank, this actually saved around 1000 cubic metres in recovered product. (At today's prices, that's around $130,000 worth of crude oil.)
The P43® Sludge Control System for crude oil storage tanks is more than revolutionary, it beats all previous systems hands down.
The success of the system is based on the submerged P43® developed specifically for sludge control in crude oil storage tanks.
The P43® produces an extremely powerful "sweeping" action that is more reliable than chemicals, more effective than side-entry mixers and far safer than manual methods.
Not only is the P.T.S. system more effective than any other system - it also gives you enormous savings:
- Down time is a fraction of conventional times.
- Recovers valuable hydrocarbons that might otherwise be wasted
- It cuts out the needs for extra storage capacity during cleaning
- Tank contents do not require heating or chemical additions.
Any of these benefits would be significant. Put them together and you have one of the biggest advances in crude oil sludge control technology.
Consider first, the savings in down-time brought about by the P.T.S. Sludge Control System.
Using conventional methods, a typical large diameter crude oil tank could be out of action for 8 to 12 weeks. With the P.T.S. system, the entire de-sludging operation can be finished in about 10 days - and that includes 2 days for emptying and re-filling the tank.
What's more, the tank can still perform a storage function during the de-sludging stage.
The P43® system is much safer.
The total de-sludging operation is performed without man-entry.
Naturally, all P43® de-sludging equipment conforms to the rigid safety requirements covering hazardous areas in the oil industry.

For new, clean or gas-free tanks, the P43® can be centre-mounted as a permanent installation.
A single P43® is secured to the tank floor - together with permanent piping to the tank wall shell.
Experience has shown that about 24 hours of operation each month is all that is nesessary for complete sludge control, showing dramatic savings when compared with conventional side-entry mixers.
Volume reduction of sludge within the crude oil storage tank, reducing - indeed eliminating the need to remove the sludge from inside the tank and transferring to temporary storage and treatment lagoons.
This also reduces the risk of fire and the hazards associated with that i.e. atmospheric pollution and endangering life of people, animals and birds when such fires occur.
When crude oil sludge is spread into holding lagoons it can and does present a direct hazard to bird life. It also creates unpleasant odours.
